MLCU Community Platform

A community-focused website and flexible event registration system built for local programs, participants, families, and administrators.

A community website and flexible event platform that helps Markham residents discover local programs, register individual or multiple participants, complete secure payments, and stay connected with MLCU.

Markham Lawrence Community United connects local residents through recreation, learning, wellness, and community programs. EightLabs delivered a public website and event registration platform that brings the organization’s information, upcoming activities, registrations, payments, and contact pathways into one consistent digital experience. Visitors can explore events, review practical details, register one or more participants, and complete payment where required. A protected administration area gives the MLCU team direct control over event information, availability, reusable registration forms, attendee records, featured homepage content, links, and general site settings. The project was designed for a broad community audience, with clear navigation, responsive layouts, and registration flows that support programs with different participant and information requirements.

MLCU needed one accessible digital destination for two connected needs: explaining its community role and helping residents take part in programs. Each event can have different audiences, schedules, pricing, capacity rules, waiver requirements, and registration questions, so a single fixed form would not provide enough flexibility. The public experience also needed to remain simple for families registering multiple participants and for visitors using a phone. Behind the scenes, administrators required practical controls that would let them update programs and forms without changing code. Paid events added further requirements around secure checkout, payment confirmation, attendee records, and transactional email. The product therefore had to balance a welcoming public-facing website with structured operational tools, while keeping sensitive administration functions protected and avoiding unnecessary complexity for community members.

EightLabs designed and developed a responsive React and TypeScript experience supported by an Express API and PostgreSQL data layer. The public site introduces MLCU’s mission, highlights community programming, presents upcoming events, and provides clear routes to registration, contact information, useful links, and donations.

The event journey was built around practical participant needs. Visitors can review schedules, locations, age groups, pricing, waiver requirements, and registration availability before starting. Events can use either the standard registration flow or reusable custom wizard templates with participant-specific fields. The system also supports multiple participants in one submission where configured.

For paid programs, Stripe Checkout handles card payment through a hosted payment experience. Successful payments are reconciled with registration records, while Resend delivers registration, payment, and contact notifications. Validation through Zod and React Hook Form keeps required information structured across both standard and custom forms.

A protected administration area lets the MLCU team create and update events, manage registration availability and capacity, review attendee information, remove registrations, build reusable form templates, select featured homepage events, maintain community links, and update site settings. This gives the organization direct day-to-day control while keeping the public experience focused and easy to navigate.

The delivered platform provides MLCU with a live, centralized website for community information and event operations. Residents can discover programs, understand requirements, register single or multiple participants, complete secure payment for paid events, and receive confirmation without relying on separate disconnected tools. Administrators can manage event content, registration forms, attendee records, featured content, and site information through one protected interface. The implementation also supports different program formats through reusable form templates rather than requiring a new registration flow for every event. No verified post-launch traffic, conversion, revenue, registration-volume, or time-saving measurements were supplied, so commercial and operational performance should be evaluated after an appropriate live reporting period.
